What is a hysterectomy?

A vaginal hysterectomy is a hysterectomy procedure. During this surgery, Dr. Veeraswamy makes a small incision in your vagina and removes your uterus and other affected reproductive organs through this opening.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy

A hysterectomy procedure which involves small incisions in the abdomen. Dr. Veeraswamy uses a lighted instrument called a laparoscope to see inside your body and slender surgical tools to remove your uterus and other affected reproductive organs through the small incisions.

Abdominal hysterectomy

This open, or traditional, surgery involves a larger incision across the abdomen. Dr. Veeraswamy performs a full hysterectomy during this procedure, removing the uterus and other affected reproductive organs.

Vaginal and laparoscopic procedures are minimally invasive, with less bleeding and pain and shorter recovery times. An abdominal procedure requires a short hospital stay and a few weeks of recovery.

What are the risks of a hysterectomy?
